Franz Richard Unterberger (1837 Innsbruck - 1902 Neuilly-sur-Seine ). As an oldest son of an art dealer family he should take over the parental enterprise and completed the commercial academy in Munich. In order to hit an artist career, he went to Munich and learned as a private pupil with Albert Zimmermann and Julius Lange. Between his numerous journeys, he oscillated regularly between Munich and his native city Innsbruck. 1854 to 1857 he was in Milan. 1858 he participated for the first time in an exhibition in the Viennese art association. Still in the same year he ibegan to study at the academy in Milan and became tidy member in the Munich art association. 1859 returned Unterberger to Innsbruck. In this time he maintained contacts to the Düsseldorfer landscape school, in particular to Oswald Achenbach.. 1860 to 1863 and end of the 70´s followed journeys to Norway, which under the influence of Andreas Achenbach, for which older brother Oswalds stood. In 1864 Unterberger moved to Brussels, where he lived up to his death. He took part starting from 1866 regularly in exhibitions of the large salon of Brussels, traveled starting from 1868 to Italy. Particularly Neapel fascinated him, where he spent the summer months. Franz Richard Unterberger was established in the art scene of Europe and received numerous honors. 1873 he issued two of his works on the Viennese world fair, the large acknowledgment found and received from the emperor the knight cross of the Franz Joseph medal. 1876 he was distinguished during the world fair in Philadelphia with the golden medal, 1878 followed an honor in Paris, 1883 in Caracas, Venezuela and 1884 in Boston, the USA. Unterberger remained time of his life bachelor and died 1902 in his dwelling in Neuilly.
