This original project for an popular Austrian magazine from turn of 20 century "Oesterreichs Illustrierte Zeitung" was created in 1916 by famous Austrian genre painter and illustrator Adolf Reich. You can see on the additional photo the original magazine´s page of this magazine , to which was created this drawing. It depictes episode from the fights of courageous Pilsen regiment at the Dnjestr river on 22-28 June 1915: the Crossing of the river , after which the regiment had to exist violent fights against a fivefold hostile supremacy.
The author of the drawing popular and high listed austrian genre painter and illustrator Professor Adolf Reich ( 1887 Vienna - 1963 Salzburg). He studied at the Vienna Art Academy , later worked as stage painter in the Volkstheater in Vienna and as Illustator in the "Illustrierte Zeitung " in Lepzig in Vienna ( in the time of WW1). In the 1930-s he moved to Munich and after 1946 lived in Salzburg.His most popular paintings were genre subjects and he was called as " Austrian Spitzweg). His works can be find in the international collections and museums , for example Lichtenstein Museum in Vienna.
