Fine allegorical scene was executed ca.1830s-1840s  by listed French historical and portrait artist Auguste Charpentier (1813 - Paris-1880). The painter studied by Ingres , debuted in Salon 1833 with historical scenes . From 1837 to 1870 he regularly showed his works at the exhibitions of Salon in Paris.His paintings situated in Louvre ("Worshipping the herdsmen"); 11 religious and allegorical paintings in the church Saint-Roch in Paris; the artist painted frequently paintings  from Italy ( apropos our work titled Bosio - an area in province Alessandria, Piemont, Italy).

Literature: Thieme/Becker 1961, 1999

Inscription: signed and titled "A.Charpentier. Bosio" lower middle.

Technique: oil on wood panel. Luxuriousy original period gold-plated frame.

Measurements: unframed 9 1/4" x 7 1/4 " (23,8 x 18,6 cm ), , framed w 15 1/3 " x h 13 1/3 " (39 x 34 cm)

Condition: in very good condition.
