Beautiful children painting was executed in early 1850s and due to the description of Viennese Dorotheum, where it was purchased in 2008, was attributed to Austrian portrait painter Josef Neugebauer and depicts brothers Theodor Graf Baillet-Latour (born 1847) and Vinzenz Graf Baillet-Latour (born 1848).. Despite the absence of signature the painting have all stilistic and composition criteria to be attributed to this famous Austrian portrait painter and composer Josef Neugebauer (1810 Vienna - 1895 Melk). The artist studied with Sigmund von Perger, and graduated in 1831 at the Academy of fine arts (under Ender, Kupelwieser and Petter). Study trips have taken him to Germany, France, England and Italy. From 1839, Neugebauer was drawing teacher of the family of Archduke Carl. Member of the Academy (in 1866) and the art union Kuenstlerhaus (from 1869; from 1886 as absent member ran); from 1838 he exhibited at St. Anna. Neugebauer has created history and altarpieces, portraits (also members of the imperial family), still lifes, genre - and flower pieces. He lived from 1884 Melk Abbey, where he was also his studio. The Abbey kept his estate.
