High quality miniature portrait was executed ca. in 1795-1800 , on the back of portrait there are two old inscriptions in German: name the sitter "Graf Osterman" and original label with the name a of the artist "Anton Graff (1736 - 1813)". Although unsigned,but due to the high quality , style and time of creation , the miniature attributed as absolutely authentic work by very important Swiss-German court portrait painter , miniaturist and professor of Art academy in Dresden Anton Graff (1736 Winthertur - 1813 Dresden). The back inscription of the sitter "Graf Ostermann" can mean , that this is portrait of one represantative of noble Russian-german House Osterman. due to the time of creation and style of statesman costume , probably of Ivan Andreyevich Osterman (died 1811) ,Russian statesman and the son of famous Russian Vice-chancellor of all Russia Andrey Osterman (1686 - 1747).About author of the miniature see : http://www.bildungsdirektion.zh.ch/internet/bi/de/aktuell/News08/Anton_Graff.ContentList.0003.Document.pdf

Inscription: unsigned, on the backside of the miniature are two old inscription: with the name of sitter "Graf Osterman" and an old label with the name of artist: "Anton Graff (1736-1813)"

Technique: oil on canvas or ivory, laid down on wood. Original period bronze frame.

Measurements: unframed 3 1/2 " x 6 3/4" (8,3 x 10,7 cm), framed 3 1/2" x 43/4" (9 x 12 cm)
