Night genre scene in interior with noisy socitety of drinkers and card-players and as result awakend family , This painting was executed in realistic manner , dated 1890 and is the early work by important Austrian painter and design graphic artist Adolf Karpellus (1869 Nowy-Sacz in Galicia - 1919 in Vienna). He studied at the Academy in Vienna under Chr. Griepenkerl and J.M.Trenkwald and moved to Paris with financial help of his slovenian friend and art collector Ivan Bele to study at the Academy Julian, where he worked together with famous French artists Fleury and Levefre. In Paris he created the painting "Im Seewind", which was exhibited in Vienna "Kuenstlerhaus". After come back to Vienna, the artist dedicated himself beside the painting also to the illustration and the poster, in which area he was particularly talented. 1905 were organized by artist union "Kuenstlerhaus" a collective exhibition of his posters, from whose find large number in the collection of Vienna Albertina, in the library of the Austrian museum and in the possession of the Berlin union " Plakatfreunde" . Of his oil and tempera paintings carry most symbolistic or genre character. Karpellus received the small Golden state medal in 1907. Among his best work rank " Karnevalsfest" (19039, " Wolllust" (1908), " The Schwimmerin" (1910), " Sunny Zeit" (1911). Stince 1905 he became the member of the Viennese "Kuenstlerhaus".

Inscription: signed and dated (18)90 lower right, on the reverse of frame - old label of Viennese gallery with original paintings title in German: "Betrunkende und Kind" (in English: "Drinkers and a child" ).
