Perfect portrait of a nobleman of Vienna society was executed by famous Austrian portrait, genre painter as well as writer August Georg Mayer (1834-1889). He studied at the Vienna Art Academy under C.Gsellhofer, T.Ender, L.Kupelwieser and J.v.Fuerich. In 1851-53 he studied under Carl Rahl and in 1860-63 worked as a theater painter in Hungary. Mayer undertook study travels to Venice, Padua and Verona. He was a member of Vienna Artists´ Unit.
Paintings by Mayer are exhibited in the Austrian Gallery "Art of the 19th Century" in Vienna.
Inscription: signed A.Georg Mayer along the right edge of the canvas.
