Early genre szene with drinker society was executed in 1820s-30s and due to the stilistic and compositive similarities was attributed to the Viennese painter of the Biedermeier epoch Nikolaus Moreau (1805 - Vienna - 1834). On additional photo you can see similar genre work by the same painter from the collection of Austrian Gallery Belvedere, Vienna. Son of the architect and painter Karl Moreau. He studied in Vienna, where he lived and worked. Moreau was mainly concerned with the portrait and genre painting, but also painted animal images. Shortly before his early death in 1834, a whole series of works of his hand was to be seen in the exhibition of the Academy of St. Anna.
