A part of 4 views of European cities with identical dimensions and frames (for other see item No. 2429; 2430; 2431). This lot is to sell only together with other parts. This rare view depicting Gran ( in Hungarian: Esztergom) , the city in nothern Hungary, 46 km north-west of Budapest, on the right bank of the river Danube, which forms the border with Slovakia there. Esztergom was the Hungary from the 10th till the mid-13th century when King Bela IV of Hungary moved the royal seat to Buda. Esztergom is the seat of the prímás of the Roman Catholic Church of Hungary. in Hungary. It´s also the official seat of the Constitutional Court of Hungary. The author of this painting Austrian landscape J.Wilhelm Jankowski (1825 Bohemia - 1870 Austria) recieved his popularity with views of different European cities and landscapes in the middle of 19th century , for exemple views of Salzburg, Vienna, Traunsee, Rome, Sevilla, Melk, Venice, Gmunden, Heidelberg , Amsterdam and others.

Literature: "General Artist´s Lexicon " by Thieme/Becker and " Dictionary of austrian artists " by Prof.H.Fuchs (in German).

Inscription: signed lower in the middle, on the reverse of frame - old inscription in English with name of city "Gran on Danube.."

Technique: oil on canvas. Luxuriousy original period gold-plated frame.

Measurements: image in oval w 16" x h 20 1/4" (40,5 x 51,5 cm),unframed w 16 1/2" x h 20 4/5" (42 x 53 cm), framed w 26" x h 30 3/4 " (66 x 78 cm)
