Large orientalist painting with view of horse market in old Samarkand (second-largest city in Uzbekistan) was executed1900 in imressionistic manner by listed German-Austrian impressionist and orientalist Emil Uhl ( born 1864 in Brüx). Pupil of Fine Arts Academy in Munich, further trained in Paris by Bonnat and Roll. Worked in Munich and Vienna. The artist travelled to Orient, Egypt, Palestine, from where he recieved main motives for his paintings. His oriental landscapes, executed in the impressionistic  manner, are very rare on the art market .

Inscription: signed, dated  and titeld in German E.Uhl,Samarkand 1900 lower left, on the reverse of canvas: marked with inventory number, titled and signed by the artist in German: "Pferdemarkt in Samarkand, E.Uhl".
