Museum quality genre scene in the tavern was executed with love to detaills . The author of this work is one of the best Austrian genre artists of Biedermeier Epoch Friedrich Ritter von Malheim Friedlaender (1825 Kohljanowitz - 1901 Vienna). He studied by F.G. Waldmueller at the Viennese Art Academy . Travelled to Italy (1850), Düsseldorf 818529 and finally Paris and constantly worked in Vienna from 1856. One of the most important founding member of the Wiener Künstlergenossenschaft, an association of artists in Vienna. At first preferred historical subjects, but later turned to sociocritical topics and genre painting . After 1854 he painted genre paintings exclusively, taking his subjects chiefly from military life and the local life of Vienna, after 1866 especially veterans , drinkers and war invalids. Since 1866 he has been a member of the Vienna Academy; in 1865 he received the Order of Francis Joseph and the Bavarian Order of Michael, and in 1867 the gold medall with crown for merit. He has recently been elevated to the nobility with the suggestive title of "Von Mahlheim". Many of his paintings are in the Imperial Gallery at Vienna.
