A pair of landscapes with a bridge, river and figures of travellers was executed ca. 1800s by good listed French landscape and marine painter Louis-Philippe Crépin (1772 - 1851). He was one of the first painters of marine in France. Crépin was notably a pupil of Joseph Vernet and Hubert Robert. His Combat de la Bayonnaise contre l´Ambuscade, 1798 is one of the main exhibits of the Musee nacional de la Marine.

Literature: E. Benezit " Dictionary of painters, sculptors, decorators and etchers", Paris, 1999; Bellier u.Auvray "Dict.gen.etc.", 1885.

Inscription: signed on the reverse of painting.

Technique: each: oil on cardboard. Magnificent original period gold-plated frames.

Measurements: each unframed w 11 " x h 7 3/4 " (28 x 19,5 cm), framed w 13 3/8 " x h 10 1/2" (34 x 26,5 cm)

Condition: both - in very good condition, original canvas, no inpaintings or paintlosses, paintings were professionaly cleaned and are ready to hand on the wall.
