"Sleeping nude in oblique light", this impressionistic painting was executed on the turn of 20th century and despite the absence of the signature (what is often by the artist), our painting has all the criteria to be attributted to the hand of Austrian portrait, figure and nude painter Albert Ritzberger (1853 - Pfaffstätt - 1915). For comparison with other very similar paintings by Ritzberger see additional photos.
Albert Ritzberger studied from 1876 to 1877 at the School of Applied Arts in Vienna, then from 1879 to 1884 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. After work as assistant by his teacher Angeli , he founded in 1884 his own studio in Vienna. After many trips to Munich, Italy, Holland and especially in Austria, the artist moved to Linz and taught there a large studio. He painted in late impressionistic style large figural and compositions, mastered difficult lighting problems and specifically demonstrated in his oil sketches a virtuoso skill.
