Extremely rare hostorical painting, dated 1876, depicts the Royal Fox Hunting in Hungary with the participation of Imperor Franz Josef and Empress Elisabeth (both central figures). .The author of this painting Wilhelm Richter ( 1824 - Vienna - 1892 ) was a well-known Austrian portrait, genre and horse painter, who lived and worked in Vienna in the 19th century. With high probability we can say that our painting is identical with the Richter´s painting "Hofjagd in Ungarn"(in English: Royal hunting in Hungary), which was represanted in important monography - lexicon by Fr.von Boetticher "Malerwerke des 19.Jahrhunderts", page 425 , No. 6, Leipzig, 1892. In addition, full-identical representations of Franz Josef and Elisabeth ( in the same as on our painting hunting costums) were portrayed by Wilhelm Richter in his another paintings : "Emperor Franz Joseph I on the Fox Hunting, 1875" and "Elisabeth von Österreich zu Pferd" (1881) for comparison see extra photos from artprice.com and from the exhibition catalog "Hunting season. Austria's hunting history .. ", Wilhelm Richter was a pupil of Thomas Ender and Leopold Kupelwieser at the Vienna Academy. His works are displayed in various museums and private collections. In the 1840-1850-s he travelled to Italy . Since 1870 became the court painter, worked in Gödöllö /Hungary ( castle of Austrian impress Elisabeth), near which were often held huntings with participation of the royal couple and their court. It´s known a few his paintings depicted Royal huntings in environments of Gödöllö...
