Typical high artistic landscape was created ca. in 1880 by the represantative of Weimar school Johann Hermes (1842 Berlin - 1901 Wiesbaden). Hermes was trained at the Berlin Academy by Max Schmidt and from 1865 to 1870 at the Duesseldorf Academy by Oswald Achenbach, came in 1871 to Weimar, from here - to Holland. Since 1875 settled in Berlin.Clearly the influence of his teacher Oswald Achenbach. Hermes exhibited at all important art exhibitions in its time: 1868 - 1901 in Berlin, Glaspalast Munich (1879-1898), Duesseldorf, Weimar, Breslau, Lübeck. The artist prefers the märkische landscapes, also motifs from the Baltic Sea, from Mecklenburg, Baden, some Dutch landscapes (due tothe dress of figures our painting created by the artist during his Holland stay). Works of Hermes can be found in numerous museums and private collections (lit. s. Thieme/Becker vol. 15/16, S. 510 with numerous further references).

Inscription: because the dimension of the painting was changed obviously at the bottom of a small little in the format, is the still fragmentary original signature and dating on the allocated side of the lower wedge frame (see additional photo).

Technique: oil on canvas, old impressionist style frame.

Measurements: unframed w 19 3/4" x h 25 1/2" (50 x 65 cm), framed w 25 1/4" x h 30 3/4" (64 x 78 cm ).

Condition: in very good condition.
