Portrait of a beauty was executed by high quoted German portrait a genre painter Josef Lieck (1849 Aachen - 1904 Berlin). Since 1867 studied at the Berlin Academy under J.Schrader., worked in Berlin, where exhibited 1876-1904. He was one of the popular German artists of the time and has been especially successful in his delineation of the softer and more tender types of feminine beauty.Fully identical work by Lieck, dated 1889, also one year later as our painting, was estimated for 40 - 60.000 USD in a sale by Sothebys New York ( see addtional photo).
