Museum quality dog genre painting with a family of King Charles Spaniels is early and extremely fine work (dated 1852) by good listed Belgian animalist Vincent de Vos (1829 - 1875). The artist, born in Courtrai/Belgium, studied by Eduard Woutermaertens. He painted mostly dogs, in a style similar to that of Joseph Stevens, but with a trade drier, more meticulous. Works by him situated in museums of Mulhouse and Tourcoing.

Literature: " E. Benezit " Dictionary of painters, sculptors, decorators and etchers" (in French), Paris, 1999.

Inscription: signed and dated 1852 lower right.

Technique: oil on canvas. Luxuriousy original period gold-plated frame.

Measurements: unframed w 25 1/4" x h 18 7/8" (64 x 48 cm), framed w 34 2/3" x h 28 1/3 " (88 x 72 cm)

Condition: in very good condition.
