Portrait of a Slovak peasant girl was executed by famous Austrian genre and folk scene artist Hans Tschelan ( 1873 - 1964). He studied from 1895 to 1899 at the Viennese Academy by Julius Berger,´from 1899 to 1904 - by Fr.Rumpler. Later he moved he to Florence, where studied by Prof. Fattori, afterthen in Paris in the Academy Julian, later, since 1905 in Munich in the Art school Azbe. From 1905 to 1907 he lived and worked in Baczka in South Hungary, where created a lot of folk scenes, later he executed paintings with motives from Slovakian folk live by March area. From 1915 to1 918 he was as war painter on the front in Tirol. His most popular works were folk scenes from South-East Europe.For other works by H.Tschelan on our Web see item No. 3657 and 3695.
