Lovely and qualitative genre scene with children, playing with their favorite dog, was executed in 1871 by famous Belgian painter Eugene Siberdt ( Antwerp April 21, 1851 - There is 1 June 1931).

He received his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, directed by Nicaise de Keyser . He painted romantic history paintings, religious subjects , many portraits and genre pieces. He went to this very detailed and flexible work using darker shades. In 1873 he obtained second place in the coveted Prix de Rome. From 1874 he made regularly and successfully exhibited at the main Belgian Salons. He was also appointed as official court painter. In 1883 he became a teacher at the Academy of Antwerp for character class " Drawing figure from life. " He is described as pedanterig and a drill sergeant , one who strove for perfection . It was here did he came into conflict in 1886 with Vincent van Gogh.

In 1883 he became a teacher at the Academy of Antwerp for character class "Drawing figure from life." He is described as pedanterig and a drill sergeant, one who strove for perfection. [1] It was here that he came into conflict in 1886 with Vincent van Gogh. A collision with the restless nature and feverish working method of Van Gogh was inevitable. Van Gogh drew a plaster cast of a Greek goddess as a burly naked Flemish matron, to the horror of his teacher. Van Gogh mentioned, in the presence of the disciples, not his manner of signs but the methods of Siberdt totally wrong. This led to his removal from the classroom. Yet one should not put too much emphasis on this, because in his last letter from Antwerp to his brother Theo, Vincent made even reported a compliment from his teacher. It did not stop at this one incident with artists who would later gain fame great : in 1896 what Eugeen Van Mieghem by put him out of the Academy Because He did not want folds for academic instruction . Eugène Siberdt died in Antwerp on June 1, 1931. His works are mainly privately owned, but also in museums in Antwerp and Bruges. At auctions achieve his works reasonably high prices.
