A pair of Algerian landscapes: "A Village in the Grand Kabilie region" and " Caravan in the Biskra province" " (both titled by the author on the backs of panels) were executed in the second half of 19th century by French landscape, cityscape, marine painter and orientalist Ferdinand Bonheur (1817 - 1887), origin from the famous Bonheur family of artists. He recieved acknowledge for his paintings with motives from Venice, Istanbul, Orient, seascapes with French harbours.

Literature: E. Benezit " Dictionary of painters, sculptors, decorators and etchers"(in French), Paris, 1999.

Inscription: illegible remainder of the signature on the dark ground lower right and lower left.

Technique: each: oil on wood. Original period gilt frames.

Measurements: each: unframed w 10 1/2 " x h 6 1/8 " (26,8 x 15,5 cm), framed w 15" x h 10 2/3 " ( 38 x 27 cm)

Condition: in very good condition.
