It is the pair to the previous item No. 4342.

This masterful still life with flowers, cherries and piece of pumpkin was executed in 1838 by famous painter of Dutch origin Leopold von (van) Stoll (b.1808). He was active in Austria, around 1828 - in Warsaw and Cracov and in 1830 - 1834 - in St. Petersburg, where he was busy designing floral arrangements for the Botanic Gardens. In St. petersburg Academy he was elected to the " designated " , and in 1831 was awarded the title of academician for the painting " Flowers and fruit group". In 1831 In 1834, the artist came back to Austria to get a popular acclaim for his wonderful flower paintings and fruits. The Ermitage in St.Petersburg has a few his still life and flowers paintings in its collection ( Cataloque of Ermitage , 1901) and Viennese Schönbrunn - his still life with the statue of the nymph Egeria.

Literature: The artist is listed in : "Austrian Artists Dictionary "by Heinrich Fuchs, Vienna 1974 and " Allgemeines Lexikon der bildenen Künstler " by Thieme / Becker. Leipzig, 1999; " List of Russian Painters. To 245 anniversary of the Academy" by S.N.Kondakoff (in Russian), Moscow, 2002.

Inscription: signed L. Stoll and dated 1838 (with Roman numerals), lower right.

Technique: oil on canvas. Magnificent gold-plated frame.

Measurements: unframed w 17 1/2" x h 21 2/3 " (44,5 x 55 cm), framed w 22 1/4" x h 26 1/2" (56,5 x 67,5 cm)

Condition: in very good condition, canvas professionally relined.
