Lovely genre scene with peasant children playing with puppy was executed ca. in 1850s - 1860s and due to the signature was attributed to the hand of Bohemian painter Jakob Ginzel ( 1792 - Reichenberg - 1862). From 1814 to 1818 he studied at the Prague Academy. In 1818 he worked then in his hometown as a painter in Dresden. Ginzel's picturesque focus was in portraiture, which was especially significant castles of Reichenberg and Jablonec nad Nisou. He is known for a variety of Christmas cribs. His genre scenes are rare to meet on the art market. Literature: Thieme/Becker"Dictionary of artists from antique to present", Lepzig, 1999; Toman " Lexicon of Czech painters"I, 1947. Inscription: signed lower left . Technique: oil on canvas. Salon original period gold-plated frame. Measurements: unframed w 27 " x h 21 2/3 " (68,5 x 55 cm); framed w 34 1/2 " x h 29 1/8 " (87,5 x 74 cm). Condition: in very good condition.
