Large romanticist nude work was created in 1859 in the style of famous Russian painter of Italian origin Andrei Belloli (1822 Rome - 1881 St. Petersburg). For comparison with famous works by Belloli see additional photos.

Andrei Frantsevich Belloli, the famous Russian painter, master of portrait and Salon painting, was born in Rome in 1822. Graduate of the Academy St. Luke. Arrived in St. Petersburg at the end of 1850. Initially engaged works — paintings of Palace plafonds and churches.

Subsequently, great success began to use his work, oil and colored pencils — women´s and children´s portraits.

A. Belloli was an active and constant participant of the academic exhibitions held in the capital, 1861, he was the academician of the Academy of arts by class portrait.

In the year 1869 was organized at the Academy of arts exhibition of his works in favor of poor students, widows and orphans. His artistic skills and active citizenship have received official recognition from the Russian authorities: in the year 1870 in connection with its fiftieth anniversary it was awarded the order of St. Stanislaus 2nd degree for many years of artistic activity for the benefit of Russian art. In the same year, a. f. Belloli created and donated to the academic Museum one of the best and most famous of his works — "the bather after the bath. Several variants of this composite picture, in particular, one of the variants of his "Bathers" was acquired for its collection of Grand Duke Nikolai Konstantinovich and is now in the collection of the Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

Creative destiny of Belloli prevails in Russia happily and his work brought him fame, but in 1881 artist committed suicide.

Inscription: signed illegibly and dated 1859, lower in the middle.

Measurements: unframed w 37 1/3" x h 49 1/4" (95 x 125 cm ); framed w 42 1/8" x h 53 1/2" ( 107 x 136 cm).

Condition: in good condition, original canvas.
