Romantical landscape with waterfall and castle ruins any-where in the Roman Campagna was executed ca. in 1810 and despite absence of signature has all stylistic criteria to be to attributed to the hand of Johann Christian Reinhart (1761 Hof - 1847 Rome), the important German painter, drawer and etcher, who with his Roman landscapes is located on the threshold between Classicism and Romanticism and is expected for the period 1800 to the most highly esteemed artists of its kind. He was considered as the center of the German colony of artists in his adopted home of Rome and was known mainly by his heroic and ideal landscapes. He was one of the founders, along with Joseph Anton Koch, of German romantic classical landscape painting. For comparison of our work with other stilistic similar works by Reinhart see our additrional photos from the important exhibition cataloque "Johann Christian Reinhart", Hamburg, Munich 2012-2013.
