This pair of outstanding quality seascapes was executed in 1858 by listed Flemish marine painter Georg (Johannes) Jan Hoffmann (1833 - 1873).
Georges Johannes Hoffmann lived and worked in the Hague. There he begins as Assistant and student of the famous naval painter Louis Meijer. When Meijer died in 1866, made Hoffmann all paintings and took over the business. Hoffman painted sea and riverscpes. The Haags gemeentemuseum has work from him. (Source: Simonis & Buunk, Ede).
