Typical religious work was painted in the middle of 19th century in the style of Nazarene School and due to the style, composition, time of creation and provenance was attributed to the hand of Viennese historical painter Leopold Kupelwieser (1796 - Vienna - 1862). Leopold Kupelwieser was the son of Johann Baptist Georg Kilian Kupelwieser 1760–1813 ), joint owner of 1775 grounded metal dishes factory set up and his Mrs Maria Josepha Judith, born Gspan. After his talent had already early been recognized by Franz Anton von Zauner , Leopold Kupelwieser received lessons at the Viennese academy already since 1809 at the age of 12 years. He was influenced by Friedrich Overbeck and the Nazarenes in the course of a stay in Rome in the year 1824 and became the range of one of most important Represantatives of The Viennese Cassicism. After the death of the Russian nobleman Alexander Beresin in whose order he had done illustrations he swept back to Vienna and established himself as portrait and historical painter. He was a member of the circle of friends around Franz Schubert, the "Schubertianern" which frequently stayed in the castle Atzenbrugg in summer. Of this circle of friends he created some portraits, among this Franz Schubert, Franz Seraph Joseph Vinzenz of Bruchmann, Moritz von Schwind and Franz von Shober. Kupelwieser became professor for art of historical scenes at the Viennese academy since 1836 and dealt with religious motives and fresco painting increasingly. 1850 Kupelwieser was awarded the Knight´s Cross of the Franz-Joseph medal. He was 1850 heads of a master school for painting. His major works are religious altarpieces and frescos, which he created for churches in Vienna and a complete area of the monarchy. In the 1840s the monumental painting took a more and more important position in his work. Kupelwieser belonged to the school of the Nazarenes and is in Vienna together with Joseph of Führich is the main representative of the religious romantic painting.
