Very fine Biedermeier landscape with a village in South Tyrol (due to the antique inscription on the back of the stretcher) was executed in 1851 by good listed German landscape painter August Behrendsen (1819 Magdeburg - 1886 Hildesheim). Pipil of F.W. Schirmer at the Berlin Academy, which influence he had in bis landscapes. From Berlin moved he to Königsberg; Teacher from 1855, and Professor at the local Academy . Div. prizes : including 1862 large gold-Med. of the the Berlin Academy., 1869, ibid. member -B. painted atmospheric landscapes in a meticulous style and strong colours. He found his subjects in East Prussia and the Baltic Sea, later in Upper Italy, the Italian Alps in Tyrol and Switzerland; also the views of the Mediterranean coast (among others, Genoa and Nice). Especially in the way of the comp. weighs an idealized concept in his works.
