Biedermeier portrait of a child was executed in the middle of 19th century . Due to the old memory inscription on the back of the stretcher, the author depicted the son Clemens of famous Austrian-Czech sugar manufacturer and politician Clemens Bachofen von Echt (1819 - 1886). More detailled biography of the father can be find in Wikipedia (in Czech) under following link:https://cs.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clemens_Bachofen_von_Echt

Also in wikipedia images we found the image of the grave memorial of this family.

Our portrait is unsigned, but due to the very close stilistic similarities and comparison with other portraits (see our works by the same author ) we attributed them to the hand of the representative of Vienna portrait art in the middle of 19th century Josef Weidner (1801 - Vienna - 1870). Since 1815 he studied at the Vienna Academy. His art was developed under the influence of Friedrich Amerling, Carl Rahl and his brother-in-law Ferdinand Georg Waldmueller. From 1826 to 1847 Weidner exibited his works by Academy Exibition of St. Anna and in 1857 - 1868 - by Exibition of Austrian art union and in 1836 in the Berlin Academy. His works (portraits of Austrian and Czech nobility) represent in museums of Brno, Klausenberg, "Belvedere" in Vienna.
