View of the old villa on the lake in the famous Austrian province Salzkammergut (probably on the lake Traun) was executed in 1875 by famous Czech-Austrian landscape painter, theater designer and illustrator Hugo Ullik (1838 Prague 1881).Hugo Ullik was the son of a court clerk in Beroun. In the years 1854-1861 he studied at the Prague Academy in the landscape school of Max Haushofer. He exhibited for the first time in 1860 at the Fine Arts Union. In the 60 years he lived in dismal financial situation, painted around Salzburg and vainly asked for state scholarship. In the years 1871-1874 he continued his studies at the Munich school of landscape by Eduardo Schleich and until 1877 lived in Munich and undertook trips to the Bavarian Alps (in Ramsau, Ruhpolding, Evening on the lake). After returning to the Czech Republic he worked as a theatrical scene painter in Prague, Pilsen and Bratislava. As an illustrator of Czech castles contributed drawings to magazines Flowers and Aero. In 1891 he was represented at the Jubilee Exhibition in Prague (Old Town Square in Prague, Křivoklát, Střekov). He was a member of the Society of St. Luke (50 years), the Fine Arts Unit (1875-79) and Artistic meetings (1863-1881).Hugo Ullik painted in 1868 the curtain for amateur theatre in Beroun with view of the city and in 1872 the curtain for Nymburk. Later painted decoration in Mladá Boleslav, Kouřim, Louny and also created a romantic trip to the premiere of Smetana´s Opera the secret (September 18, 1878) in the provisional theatre. In his pictures remain faithful to the German romantic landscape school and sought out the picturesque and idyllic scenery. In addition to the Alps painted around Prague, giant mountains and Bohemian Forest. A sense of realistic detail and color in his work is clearer than many of his contemporaries, who painted the landscape largely in the Studio and not in the countryside.
