This pair of old master still lifes was executed ca. in 1790-1810 and due to the absolutely identicy of all stilistic criteria was attributed to the hand of Austrian still life Panter Johann Nepomuk Mayrhofer (1764 in Oberneukirchen/Upper Austria - 1832 in Munich ). For comparison with other flower works by the same artist see images in the German Wikipedia and in the sales of prominent European auctions (date bank artprice.com and artnet.com).
The artist studied painting by Johann Haslinger, who worked in Linz from 1759, and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich for further training. Mayrhofer was mainly concerned with botanical studies and became a highly regarded and very precise flower painter. In cooperation with the Lithographic Art Institute of Hermann Mitter in Munich, he published a number of scientifically and artistically valuable lithographs. In the year 1832, Mayrhofer died in Munich, the city in which he had lived until the last time.
