Masterfully portrait miniature on ivory, signed and dated:"Laurent, 1823". It was executed by French listed portrait and miniature painter François Sébastien Laurent ( 1776 - Nancy - 1848), son of the painter Jean-Baptiste L. and pupils of Saingry. One miniature by Laurent is in the the Museum of Nancy.

Inscription: signed Laurent and dated (indistinctly) 1823 or 1833; on the back - French inscription about the sitter (see add.photo).
Technique: Gouache on ivory, painted in oval, original wood frame with bronze oval inner mount.
Measurements: unframed w 4 3/4" x h 5 3/4" (12 x 14,5 cm ), framed w 6 1/4" x h 7 3/4" (16 x 19,7 cm)
Condition: in good condition, vertical crack on the left edge (see photo). |
