Monumental view of the Procida Peninsula in the Gulf of Naples was executed in 1847 by well-known German landscape painter Eduard Agricola ( 1800 Stuttgart - after 1872 München (?)). 1818-26 student of the Fine Art Academy in Berlin. Then in Salzburg, from 1830 to 1848/50 with short stays in Berlin and Munich, mainly in Rome and Naples. Last in Karlsruhe and Munich. Primarily landscapes, initially from the Alps, later mainly from Italy (seascapes, coastal areas, waterfalls, vedute, ruins) in the wake of F. L. Catel. In the 1840s orders from Princes Karl and Albrecht of Prussia. Also South and north German motives. Last lived very withdrawn.

Works: Magdeburg, Kulturhistory Mus.: Sizilian. Landscape; Leipzig, Museum : Landscape near Naples, oil (lost); Potsdam, Sanssouci: Königssee in Tirol, oil, (lost).

Exhibitions: 1818-52 Berlin, Academy, 1842 Dresden, ACademy; 1827, ´ 68 Munich, Art Union; 1858 Munich, Glass Palace/1873 Vienna, World exhibition.

Inscription: signed and dated 1847, lower in the middle.

Technique: oil on canvas. Magnificent original period gold-plated frame.

Measurements: unframed w (116 x 80 cm), framed w 24 " x h 28 " (162 x 117 cm)

Condition: in very good cleaned condition, old relining of the canvas.
