This large genre scene was executed by famous Austrian painter , draftsman of Czech descent Joseph Haier (also Jiří Haier, Joseph Hayer, Joseph Hajer, Joseph Hayr; * 1816 in Vienna; † 1891 in Brno) From 1844 to 1845 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich by Clemens von Zimmermann. From 1848 to 1850 he worked in Olomouc. 1850 he settled in Brno. Since 1864, he has been working on photography. He stayed in Mikulov, since the 1870s he worked as a painter in Vienna. He left numerous portraits and genre paintings in the manner of late romanticism.Full info with rich image base see in on-line under:

Inscription: signed lower right.

Technique: oil on canvas, splendid original period gilt frame.

Measurements: unframed w 40 " x h 29 1/8" (101,5 x 74 cm), framed w 49 1/4" x h 39 1/3" (125 x 100 cm).

Condition: good, professionally cleaned and restored, a few patches on the back (see photos).
