Large romantical painting with Italian madonna and sleeping baby was executed in 1868 by famous German genre, history and portrait painter of the Duesseldorf school. Friedrich Rudolf Albert Korneck, also Kornek (1813 Breslau/Wroclaw, Province of Silesia - 1905 Berlin)
Our work was executed at the exhibition of Berlin Academy in 1868 (siehe Fr.von Boetticher , p. 745 ,list No. 19-20; on the back of the frame is original exhibition label).
The artist studied since 1833 at the Berlin Academy under a. V. Klöber and since 1836 at the Duesseldorf Academy under K. Sohn. 1840 settled in Berlin, where he remained permanently asässig. Between 1834 and 1890, he frequently sent the Berlin academy exhibitions mainly with portraits, but also with genre images and biblical histories. His 1840 exhibited painting "Jakob and Rachel Am Brunnen" was acquired by the Rhenish-Westphalian artist Association. Later he devoted himself more and more to the portrait subject. In the orders of Prince Wilhelm of Prussians, later Emperor Wilhelm I, Korneck portrayed numerous members of the court for the rooms of the Berlin castle, including the Prince himself.
For the Wroclaw Cathedral he painted the altarpiece: Anna and Mary. In the Silesian Museum in Wroclaw a picture "girl with water jug in landscape" is preserved, at Schloss Rötha near Leipzig a portrait of Freiherr von Friesen (1861), in the Berlin Hohenzollern museum a portrait of the General Wrangel (1848), in the Kunstakadmie in Copenhagen a portrait of the Danish marine painter Anton Melbye.
