This Biedermeier landscape with deers was executed by listed Austrian landscape painter Wilhelm Johann Pollak (1802 - Vienna - 1860).Born as son of a pharmacist, Pollak was a brother-in-law of painters Friedrich Gauermann and Joseph Höger. Following their example, Pollak began painting as a self-taught artist.He already took part in an exhibition of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in St. Annahof in 1826.In the period 1826/1827 he studied at the Vienna Academy in History and Drawing class. After graduation he was in Vienna as a freelance landscape painter employing. Sometimes Gauermann helped with the staffages in Pollak´s landscape paintings.<
On study trips with Gaermann he visited Lower Austria, Styria, the Salzkammergut as well as Italy.From 1833 to 1846 he lived in Lündenburg/ now Breclav/Czech Republic, where was created our painting too. From 1849 to 1850 he lived in Krems on the Danube, and spent the last years of his life in Vienna. From 1840 to 1859 Exhibited Pollak also at the Vienna Academy of St. Anna, from 1850 to 1854 in the Künstlerhaus Wien.
