Genre scene with a scholar in his studio ( probably due to similarities the Dutch Renassaince humanist and theologian Erasmus of Rotterdam) was executed by Munich historical and genre painter Karl Gebhardt (1860 -Munich - 1917). Since 1876 pupil of the Munich Academy under Loefftz and Lindenschmtt, begun in 1879 with historical work „Hero and Leander“ (purchased by Hamburg Kunsthalle), and was then sent to Rome as a scholarship holder. Between 1883 and 1916 exhibited his works in Munich and also at the Berlin Glaspalast ( Death of Virginia; Eve before the body of Abel) and then switched to pure genre paintings.
