Romantic seascape with a ship and a boat off the Italian coast (by Triest or Amalfi) was executed in the first half of 19th Century and due to the similar style and available monogram J.P. Was attributed to the hand of Julius Prömmel (1812 in Hamburg-Wandsbek - 1870 in Triest) , Danish-German naval painter and shipbuilder.

Prömmel studied painting in Copenhagen from 1833 to 1844 with Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, then returned to Hamburg. In addition to painting, he also learned the craft of shipbuilding. He then settled in Trieste, where he worked as a shipbuilder in the service of Austria. He also wrote manuals on shipbuilding.

Prömmel created quite a few pictures, mostly with the depictions of the sailing ships.
