Portrait of a young pretty ballerina was executed in 1920s-30s by famous Hungarian female painter Maria Szantho (1897 Szeged - 1998 Nagymágocs). An object of desire for many collectors in Europe and the USA, works by Hungarian painter Maria Szantho has been popular for almost a century. She was born in Szeged, Hungary in 1897 and studied in her homeland under the tutelage of Kukan Geza. In 1924 the artist started to exhibit her paintings at the Mucsarnok Salon in Budapest, principally portraying female nudes. Critics note that in her creative work Szantho was initially influenced by Hungarian artists Lotz and Benczur, but later developed her own original style.
