Romantic Rhine landscape ( a pair to the next item No.) was executed in 1860s-1870s by good listed German landscape painter of the Duesseldorf School Josef Jansen ( 1829 Aachen - 1895 Duesseldorf).In the age of 17, Jansen moved to Düsseldorf. There he studied painting at the Royal Prussian Art Academy. In the years 1847 to 1850 he was a pupil in the Landschafterklasse of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. Study tours led him first in landscapes on the Rhine and Moselle, later in the Swiss and Bavarian Alps. From 1850 he exhibited in various German galleries, from 1870 to Berlin Academy exhibitions, 1872 in Vienna. Kaiser Wilhelm I acquired 1880 his painting Oeschinensee in the Bernese Oberland. Jansen married the landscape painter Luise Siebke (1835 – 1912), who had initially been his pupil. Her 1871 daughter Emilie († 1918), born in Düsseldorf, was a flower and still life painter. Jansen was a member of the Artists ´ Association Paintbox.
