Classicist genre with beautiful bathers was executed in the late 18th - early 19th century by high quoted French painter Jacques Antoine Vallin ( c. 1760 – Paris - c. 1831). See our additional images with high estimates. It is known that he was the son of a sculptor and that he studied at the Academy under Drevet (1779-1789), Dean (1786) and Rajendran (1791). His work represents the complexity of the artistic currents at the hinge of the two centuries: the landscaper sometimes reminds the research of Georges Michel (Bacchante, Musée de Tours); The genre painter evokes Drolling and Boilly (The young cellist, 1810, Paris, Musée Marmottan); The painter of history, on the other hand, mixing with a smooth craft a very frank touch, is very influenced by Prud´hon, between the forms of neo-Classicism and the search for the sensibility of the Preromantics (Hylas attracted by the nymphs, Gray Museum; Diane and Actaeon, 1810, Louvre). It seems to have made a speciality of paintings depicting nymphs and bacchae in landscapes. He also owes portraits, such as that of Dr. Forlenze (London, N. G.). Vallin is represented at the Louvre and in several provincial museums. Those of Cherbourg, Quimper and the M.S. Museum in Dijon each retain a series of paintings by the artist.
