Monumental allegorical work with sea nymph freeing from nets was executed by famous German painter and lithographer Heinrich Faust (1843 Reinsdorf - 1894 Kassel). Heinrich Faust is important represantant of German poetic-allegorical Historicism.
Since 1855 he studied as lithographer by Georg Koch in Kassel, since 1858 - at the Academy in Kassel under Friedrich Müller ( painting). In 1864 he recieved the travel grand for study by Joseph van Lerius in Antwerp, later in Italy. After following Italan travels, since 1870 settled in Kassel. In der 70th years- lived in Munich, where he has learned the art of Bocklin and Hans Makart, whom he visited later in Vienna.A lung disease increasingly affects his activity as painter. By Makart strongly influenced painter. Portr., decorative and exuberant poet figures, histories and fairy tale images, especially women´s representations, often on matte gold background and with theatrical effect.
