Sappho (born between 630 and 612 BC - died around 570 BC) was an ancient Greek poetess. She is considered the most important poet of classical antiquity and has canonical meaning. Sappho lived in Mytilene on the island of Lesbos in the North Aegean, the cultural center of the 7th century BC. Erotic love plays an important role in her poems.
