This painting with viewfrom a hill on Nice and the Baie des Anges was executed by good listed German painter Johann Baptist Heinefetter (1815 Mainz - 1902 Baden-Baden).

Heinefetter was born as the child of Jewish parents in Mainz. From the connection of his father, Christian Heinefetter (Born 1772) and his mother, Christine (born Seelandt) were more children, the sisters, Sabine, Eva, Fatima, Kathinka, Klara and Nanette, all of whom were Opera singers of the interior. Together with Adolph Heinefetter, the whole family took part in the opera Die Zauberflöte at the Staatstheater Mainz in 1826.

In Munich, Johann Baptist Heinefetter was student of the battle painter Dietrich Monten. He was active as a genre, landscape and occasionally battle painter. He traveled to Italy, southern France, Corsica, Switzerland, Tyrol as well as Austria, Upper Bavaria, Black Forest and the Rhine-Main area and settled in Baden-Baden.

In 1842 he painted the frescoes of the Trinkhalle Baden-Baden with Jakob Götzenberger, created the picture Resurrection of Christ for the cemetery chapel and four large ceiling paintings in the conversation house. In 1847 he founded a gymnastics club in Baden-Baden, of which he was later made an honorary member. In the 1850s, he accompanied Götzenberger to England. Here they worked together for Francis Egerton, 1st Earl of Ellesmere, who had them decorate Bridgewater House in London´s St. James´s Park with pictures from the history of the house and scenes from Comus by John Milton.

He was a painting instructor of the princesses Belosselski and Gagarine, as well as the Duchess of Hamilton, Marie Amalie of Baden. Friedrich I of Baden also showed interest in Heinefetter´s works and visited the artist´s studio several times. He acquired several large Landscape paintings and appointed Heinefetter to the court painter.
