A pair of seascapes with Neapolitan (or Maltese) fishing boats was executed on the turn of 20th century by Maria Gianni (act. ca. 1890-1905), who was primarily famous for scenes of Malta and Naples.

Maria was born in Naples around 1863/64. She was the eldest daughter, and most likely the eldest child, of the Neapolitan painter, Girolamo Gianni (1837-1895), who took his family from Naples to Malta in 1868, and built a highly successful twenty year career in Malta painting scenes of Malta, and of ships of the Royal Navy based at, or transiting through Malta. Maria worked in her father´s style and followed him to Malta .

Inscription: one of two signed.

Technique: each oil on wood. Original period frames.

Measurements: each unframed w 7 1/8" x h 13 5/8" ( 18 x 34,5) cm; framed w 11 1/4" x h 17 7/8" (28,5 x 45,5 cm.)

Condition: in very good condition.
