A pair of seascapes with Neapolitan (or Maltese) fishing boats was executed on the turn of 20th century by Maria Gianni (act. ca. 1890-1905), who was primarily famous for scenes of Malta and Naples.

Maria was born in Naples around 1863/64. She was the eldest daughter, and most likely the eldest child, of the Neapolitan painter, Girolamo Gianni (1837-1895), who took his family from Naples to Malta in 1868, and built a highly successful twenty year career in Malta painting scenes of Malta, and of ships of the Royal Navy based at, or transiting through Malta. Maria worked in her father´s style and followed him to Malta .
