Genre scene in front of the racecourse ( original title "AnTurf", according to the adhesive label on the back ) was executed with love to the details around 1880s. It signed A.Godin. Because it is unknown the artist with this name but due to the fully identical style and German title on the back label we suppose , that this work was executed by renowed Austrian genre painter Moritz Stifter (1857-1905 Mauer-Oehling, Lower Austria), who signed it with pseudonym (as was usual at the time for commercial reasons). He was at first an officer and then for some years a student of Piloty at the Academy of Munich. From 1899 onwards he lived and worked in Haag near Neulengbach, Lower Austria. His genre scenes with society, portraits of beauties and oriental genre scenes arrived high estimates by the international auctions.(see additional photo). Literature: H. Fuchs "Lexicon of Austrian artists of 19th century2, Vienna, 1975; Thieme/Becker "General Artist Dictionary", Leipzig, 1999 Inscription: signed with pseudonym A.Godin. Technique: oil on wood. Luxuriousy original period gold-plated frame. Measurements: unframed w 10 1/4" x h 15 3/4" (26 x 40 cm), framed w 18 1/2" x h 23 2/3" (47 x 60 cm) Condition: in very good condition
