After attending the Franziskanergymnasium in Bozen, he completed the philosophical years at the Universities of Verona and Innsbruck in 1845-1847 and studied law from 1847-1851 at the University of Vienna (temporarily also in Munich). Until the mid-1860s, lithographic works dominated his work; his main work ("Views of Tyrol") was published by Unterberger in Innsbruck in 1856/1857; Works with Tyrolean views were followed by views from Styria and Upper Austria. In addition to lithographs, Seelos also created oil paintings, drawings and watercolors (landscapes, flowers); In 1885 he was commissioned by Emperor Franz Joseph I to paint large battle paintings (Kolin, Berg Isel, Kahlenberg and Lissa), and he was also involved in decorating the Natural History Museum (Stonehenge, Rosegg tumuli).
