Genre scene with an angel pointing the fisherman´s wife to the returning ship. It was painted by famous Düsseldorf painter Alexander Frenz, painter, draftsman, lithographer, etcher, illustrator, ( 1861 Rheydt (today in Mönchengladbach) - 1941 Düsseldorf).

He was the son of the architect Wilhelm F., father of Hermann F.; Brother-in-law of the painters Arthur Kampf, Emil Schultz-Riga and Willy Spatz. first artistic expansion in Cologne by the cathedral sculptor Christian Mohr and the painter Johannes Niessen; then 1879-93 student: KA Düsseldorf with Andreas Müller, Julius Roeting, Ernst Forberg, Eduard von Gebhardt and as a master student of Peter Janssen, interrupted by one-year studies in Munich as a private student of Bruno Piglhein and Franz von Lenbach. conn. assistent by Hugo Crola at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Initially stayed in Düsseldorf: there member of academical artist Union Laetitia, the artist union. "Paint box" (1889-1904, 1908), Union of Düsseldorf artists for mutual support and help. Also in the St. Lucas Club intensive revival of the artists. Orig. graphic. 1891 Prussia. State prize with which F. financed his studies in antiquity and nature in Naples and Rome. Further trips to Italy in 1893 and 1895 to Capri. 1904-09 in Nachf. by Franz Reiff Prof. for figure and landscape drawing as well as watercolors at the academy in Aachen. Then lived alternately in Berlin, Rome, Capri, Rapallo (1910), Cologne, Bonn. Distinction: Silberne Med. WA St. Louis 1905. F.´s portrait is illustrated by three ll. in the Arch. of the Düsseldorf Artists´ Association. "Malkasten" handed down (Eduard Kaempffer, sketchbook S 57; Heinrich Otto, group portrait "Festbowle im Malkasten", wood engraving, 1892; anonymous caricature). – F. is one of the most important Düsseldorfers along with Willy von Beckerath and Robert Böninger.
