Genre scene with lancers in the yard of the inn , probably from the time of Napoleonic wars , was executed in 1868 by Franz Adam (1815 in Milan - 1886 in Munich), important German battle and horse painter and lithographer.

The second son of the painter Albrecht Adam took part in his father's work from an early age. This cooperation was maintained until the father's death in 1862.

He took part in the campaign of 1849 in northern Italy, published his studies from the same in lithography and in 1850 traveled the battlefields of Hungary on behalf of Emperor Franz Joseph. For this he painted the battles of Custozza and Temesvár and several life-size equestrian portraits. In 1859 he again took part in the Sardinian War in Northern Italy and then settled in Munich, where he painted, among other things, the Battle of Solferino and the retreat of the French from Russia.

In the period up to 1870, he particularly cultivated the image of sports. The French war gave his art a new impetus, and he was particularly able to appreciate the dramatic power of his portrayal and the richness of his coloring in the two depictions of the cavalry, archer and spearman attack at Floing in the Battle of Sedan and in the Battle of the Bavarians around the railway embankment near Orléans (since April 2019 owned by the Norwegian art collector Ørjan Larsen), which are among the most excellent recent battle images, have proven their worth in their entirety.
