Landscape with Black Grouse was executed by Munich animale painter (1862 - 1934). He was the younger brother of the animal painter Julius Scheuerer (1859-1913) and  worked in Munich.

Otto Scheuerer first learned his painting trade as an autodidact, possibly with the help of his brother Julius. He then studied painting with Karl Raupp, but was not registered in the register of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

Scheuerer became a member of the Munich artist cooperative. The Dutch old masters were the models for his paintings. In addition to the fowl, he also painted hunting scenes. The influence of the Chiemsee painters is noticeable in his early works.
