Masterfully still life painting with chickens, tomatoes and cabbages was executed in 1875 by the well known Austrian portrait, genre and still life painter Josef Neugebauer (1810 Vienna - 1895 Melk). He studied by F.x. Petter, Thomas Ender and Leopold Kupelwieser at the Viennese Fine Arts Academy. In years 1851-1852 was active in Florence and Rome. In Vienna he was court portrait painter. Since 1884 he settled in Melk.
